Paolo Loffredo, sixth generation of a large family of publishers and booksellers engaged in the production and distribution of books since the late nineteenth century, creates in 2012 the new editorial company Paolo Loffredo Editore. The historical site was until the '80s in the heart of the historic centre of Naples in Via San Biagio dei Librai, lower Decumano and also known as the SpaccaNapoli.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, Giuseppe Loffredo decided to add book selling to the book production, which definitively imposed itself after World War II with the publication of manuals for the University and for the School that succeeded in establishing themselves soon throughout Italy.

Being close to detention, through the project “Università in carcere” of University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, made the curators and the participants feel the urge to reflect upon many aspects of sentences and penitentiary treatment. The volume focuses on the instruments linked to this experience, analyzing them not only scientifically, using contributes coming from human and social sciences, but also using the stories of those who personally lived the criticalities and the positive incentives which are shown in the works, trying to offer to the reader new sparks on the possible ways in which it could be possible to heal the wound of the sentences, at least to make the pain bearable, or even to make it an occasion to start again.

Author

Cristina Gobbi graduated in Criminal law and is a researcher in the same field at University of Rome Tor Vergata, where she still collaborates as an expert. Since 2016 she has been coordinating a tutoring for the project “Università in carcere” and since 2018 the has been the responsible of didactics for the master in “Mediatori del disagio penitenziario” at the same University.

Marta Mengozzi is a researcher in Public law at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where she teaches Constitutional justice and Public law of media. She wrote many works about Constitutional law, such as “Incandidabilità e rappresentanza politica nazionale. Profili problematici” (2016) and many essays about the relationship between detention and constitutional rights.
